Monday After Christ the King Sunday

To:      Supporters of LENS (Lutheran Endowment for Novosaratovka Seminary)

Subject:    Appeal for 2017

Dear Friends:

Grace and peace to you from our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

As churches are in budget planning for 2017, I write to ask you to keep the Lutheran Endowment for Novosaratovka Seminary (LENS) in your benevolence ministry in the coming year.  Similarly, if you are an individual receiving this letter, please consider a gift to LENS in your giving in 2016.

The purpose of LENS is to support theological education in the Lutheran Church in Russia (ELKROS).  Historically, this was focused on the program at the seminary in Novosaratovka.  There are several active programs in theological education run through the seminary under the oversight of its director, Dr. Anton Tikhomirov.  Some courses in continuing education for pastors, lay preachers, and teachers take place at the seminary.  There is an active extension (distant learning) program, which involves quite a few more students.

The seminary still struggles with burdensome government regulations in a culture apathetic, if not hostile, to the Christian faith.  Doing the ministry of the Church in Russia is never an easy road.

We are thankful for those persons and churches this year who have supported LENS.  To date this year, faithful contributors have given gifts which allowed LENS to send $17,000 to the ministry of the Lutheran Church in Russia.

Again, please keep LENS in your plans for giving in 2017.  Contributions may be sent to the address above.  We thank-you for your support.

The Lord be with you,

Pr. Dan Biles, STS

President, for the LENS Board
